Northwoods Breakfast Porridge

Ingredients

2 cups wild rice, cooked
1/2 cup steel cut oats
2 cups water, boiling
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup dried cranberries
2 Tbsp dried cherries
1/3 cup hazelnuts, toasted
2 Tbsp slivered almonds, toasted
2 tsp butter
Fresh blueberries, to taste
Extra heavy cream for service
Brown sugar, to taste
Real maple syrup, to taste

Instructions

In sauce pan, bring steel cut oats, water, milk, buttermilk, heavy cream and butter to a boil.

Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until the steel cut oats are to the desired texture (they should not be mushy).

When oats are done, mix in wild rice, dried cranberries, cherries, and nuts and heat through.

Serve topped with fresh blueberries and heavy cream. Add brown sugar and real maple syrup to taste.

Yields 4-5 cups.
